Oak

Image
I normally share something to do with what I've been doing, but for a change I'm going to show you some of Mr's work. His current crafty obsession (and has been for awhile now) is woodturning with the odd foray into carpentry. His latest piece is just stunning. He found a gorgeous plank of naturally edged oak. He has routed and shaped it into two racks and turned some identical oak pegs to make two amazing coat racks. With some polish and elbow grease, we now have two very useful coat racks. One has 4 pegs and the other 5. The 5 peg rack has the pegs put in at an angle for coats and the other we'll use for hats and scarves. Incidentally, I've found it makes a nice prop for photos. With my well worn colour affection.

Handmade Christmas: The Tree

Image
I thought I'd share my Christmas tree with you! I've made a few decorations for the tree. This flat ceramic bauble is double-sided and from the photo above you can see the Christmas tree on the other side. A ceramic glazed santa Hardanger embroidered decoration and it's filled with cloves so it smells very Christmassy Secret Garden folded fabric blocks with lucet cord and beaded tassels And, it's not just me. These are Mr's contributions, a wood turned bauble and a star for the top of the tree which is made from white leather (a strange material for a star but it looks nice) These are a few tree decorations that friends have made for me over the years. Going through them all, I've realised there is not one knitted decoration. That will be something I'll have to remedy for next year!

Woodturned Christmas

For Christmas, I had some very lovely surprises in my stocking for my husband. He's been getting into wood turning and I got lots of knitting related goodies! Hand turned knitting needles  The knitting needles are size 8mm needles made from sapele with holly tops. I haven't knitted with them yet; as they seem to be living in the beautiful spalted beech pen pot he made as well. Along with a shawl pin with a celtic knot laminated into the end which I also adore! Hand turned laminated shawl pin Along with these other pressies, he also made a wooden dpn case - decorated with wire burning. Hand turned DPN case
